Junghans Chronometer - J82/1

Switzerland may be the epicentre of precision watchmaking but their neighbours in Germany certainly know a thing or two themselves, and this J82/1 chronometer is no exception !

Junghans watches have long been a favourite of mine and although the good ones don't turn up often this little gem was just too good to let go. The watch arrived in working order but not in the best cosmetic condition and with a few timing gremlins that needed to be ironed out.
A good service and some minor repairs should see the watch right again, the dial however had suffered from ageing rather badly and was going to need some special tlc.

Strip Down/Clean/Reassembly

Stripping the watch down we find the movement to be a little dirty and lacking lubrication in places and some over lubrication in others. The mainspring was broken so a new one would be the order of the day.  The J82/1 calibre comes in a few variations but this particular one was a sweeping seconds chronometer with hacking feature.

Finished Watch

After many weeks of on and off tinkering this stunning watch was finally completed, true to its name it now runs within excellent timing.
Casing re polished, dial refinished, hand polished and re lumed, and finished with a super supple and quality Ostrich skin strap. >>
