Servicing & Repair Procedures
Does my watch really need a service ?
Although watches are small they can contain a mind boggling amount of small moving parts with some only fractions of a millimeter in width. Each of small moving parts requires a very precise amount of lubricant in order for the whole watch to run effectively and problem free. When the oils dry out or become degraded this is when performance can become affected, similar to your motor car if left unchecked or unserviced for an extended period. When these lubricants fail then the friction from the moving parts can start to wear away at the material from which they are made. Due to the size & scale of watch parts this wear can having an exponential effect of the watches performance, tiny pivots can quickly become damaged or broken.
Lubrication is not the only cause of poor performance, magnetism and shock can also damage the tiny inner workings of a movement leading to a watch that is not fit for purpose. Climate and humidity along with poorly sealing gaskets can have really serious consequences on a watch movement leading to rust and corrosion which leaves a movement beyond any repair. There are many other causes and issues that can affect a watch so it can be worthwhile having your watch inspected for any signs of wear & damage.
Unlike servicing a car a watch service involves a very thorough examination of the inner workings, every tiny detail is looked over and inspected, worn parts replaced to revitalise the movements function, a thorough cleaning and lubrication process and much more besides. When a watch has sentimental value then it is ever more important to have it looked at with great detail and care.

What does a mechanical service involve ?
Below i have outlined the procedures that are undertaken during the course of a watch service, the same level of care and dedication is taken regardless of brand or status. Servicing is a precision art that requires very exacting standards combined with patience, knowledge, skill , and importantly passion.
1) Inspection - Each watch is thoroughly inspected for damage or fault before progressing to the next step
2) Strip Down - The movement is carefully removed & dissembled down to its component parts ready for cleaning
3) 2nd Inspection - Parts are checked before cleaning for damage or wear - and re checked after cleaning.
4) Cleaning - Watch parts are cleaned via a four stage process using the latest cleaning chemicals as used by top watch houses
5) Post Clean Inspection - Parts are further inspected after cleaning as faults/damage can be revealed after cleaning
6) Assembly - The movement is methodically assembled with each system carefully inspected for correct working
7) Lubrication - During assembly the parts are all lubricated with correct lubricants in correct amounts according to manufacturers specifications.
8) Testing - This stage tests each of the watches systems for accuracy and true running with any faults corrected.
9) Regulation & Adjustment - This is the stage where a watch is adjusted to best accuracy, watches are tested up to six positions for best results
10) Final Adjustment - Watches are tested for periods upto 14 days in four positions
The above steps are a rough guide to what is involved but each watch is different and some watches require further and more detailed efforts to return them to best working order. Each watch is given 100% attention and no shortcuts are taken that could compromise the quality of service or end result.

For a guide to current pricing please feel free to download my latest price list via PDF below. The list is a guide to costs but each watch is different and must be evaluated before hand to give a more accurate quote, on occasion this may be less than the listed price.
Servicing does not include replacement parts but does include bracelet and casing cleaning ( not polishing ). If parts are required then the extra cost is mentioned prior to repairs being carried out.
