Sent in by one of my more regular customers this Breitling was long overdue a service, the crown had also seen better days and was barely hanging on. Time to strip her down and get the movement cleaned but first a check of the timekeeping.....

Clearly somethings not right here as the pattern is everywhere, time to get to work :)

Removing Case Back

On removing the case back i found one of the plate screws was freely moving about the inside of the case, lord only knows what kind of havoc this must have been wrecking. Overall the movement looks in fair condition but only after cleaning can we see if there's any damage or wear.
The screw down crown was incredibly loose and in its current state was not capable of winding the movement or setting the hands, without doubt a new replacement was the order of the day...>

After many many years of service this crown and stem are due retirement.

Strip Down

With great care we start by removing the hands and dial before we can get to the meat of the movement.
With the dial & hands safely removed i can start stripping the movement down for cleaning. Once clean parts can then reveal any damage or wear which may prevent good working. >
With the movement stripped its time to pass the movement parts through the cleaning machine.....>

Assembly & Lubrication

With the parts all cleaned each part is inspected for damage and wear, unfortunately some of the drive train gears had some surface corrosion which was causing drag on the pinions and this effects timing & reliability. With parts already in stock i set about changing the corroded parts for new functional ones where possible...>
With the movement together once more and new parts in place the watch is working well and initial timing results show a much happier movement....>

With some further adjustments later on the movement was brought back to spec - 0.1ms/+3 Sec /250-320 Amp. Now ready for dial and hands to be refitted and back inside the casing.

Dial/Hands/Casing

With a new crown & stem ready to go and the movement all ship shape & Bristol fashion its time to get her back together...> * Note the old crown pictured is one of my service stems i use *
With the SuperOcean finished the watch has returned home ready for daily wear again, Breitling may be a high end brand but this is a working watch made for a hard life.
